Pop-Kultur Festival 2026: Where Discovery Becomes the Point

What happens when a festival deliberately puts things together that do not seem to belong together? A folk act next to electronic pop. A Berlin newcomer alongside an international artist. Club culture meeting theater, performance and experimental music. At Pop-Kultur Festival 2026, the unexpected is not a side effect of the program - it is part of the idea.

From August 24th to 30th, the Berlin festival returns with around 120 program events across concerts, DJ sets, commissioned works, talks and collaborative projects. But behind the variety is a simple ambition: to create encounters between artists, scenes and audiences that might not otherwise happen.
For Christian Morin of the festival’s program team, putting that mix together is a process of constant adjustment. He compares it to cooking: individual ingredients might be great on their own, but too much of one thing can throw off the whole dish. The program grows by finding the right balance between local and international voices, established names and artists audiences may be hearing for the first time.
That balance is also reflected in the way Yeşim Duman approaches curation. Coming from club culture and theater, she looks for energy, strong songwriting and artists who bring something distinctive to the stage. But she is equally interested in who gets the opportunity to be seen. For Duman, the more interesting curatorial challenge is not simply booking a big name, but giving audiences a reason to discover someone new.

Among Morin’s personal recommendations this year are Parisian electro duo Potochkine, London’s An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump and Indian artist Sijya. The wider program stretches from international collaborations such as Sonic Crossings to commissioned works and Berlin-based projects.
For Sorvina, who is performing at Pop-Kultur Festival after years of living and creating in Berlin, the experience ultimately comes down to connection. She hopes people leave her shows feeling more open, optimistic and empowered to be themselves. At the festival’s press conference, she described performance as a form of collective expression - a moment in which artist and audience meet and experience something together.

Maybe that is the best way to enter Pop-Kultur this year: with curiosity, rather than a checklist.

A Few Dates to Keep in Mind
Monday, August 24th - Start with the conversations
The festival opens with a strong focus on the wider music ecosystem. At silent green, talks range from music criticism and artist businesses to AI, cultural funding and the gender pay gap.
Tuesday, 25 August - International perspectives
Sonic Crossings brings international exchange into focus, with alystadyn performing at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA. The day also includes talks on politics, responsibility and the future of live music in Berlin.
Wednesday, 26 August - Experimental territory
A good day to move beyond conventional concert formats. silent green hosts performances and commissioned works alongside acts including Bar Italia and Avalon Emerson & the Charm.
Thursday, 27 August - Pop Up_Berlin
The Festsaal Kreuzberg becomes a showcase for emerging artists and labels. The program includes a label market and performances presented in cooperation with Musicboard Berlin, VUT and international partners.
Friday, 28 August - The main festival weekend begins
This is where Christian Morin’s recommendations come into play: An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump at 20:20, followed by Potochkine at 22:30. The Kulturbrauerei program also includes Lael Neale, Balm, Automatic, Jassin and many more.
Saturday, 29 August - Go curious
The main festival program continues across the Kulturbrauerei, with established names, emerging artists and collaborative projects sharing the same spaces. If discovery is the point, this is the day to resist sticking to a rigid schedule.
Sunday, 30 August - A different kind of finale
The festival closes with a more concentrated program, including Annie-Claude Deschênes and, at Pierre Boulez Saal, múm performs “Sonnenuhr”.
We’ll be there throughout the festival, following the program beyond the press room and into the venues - listening, watching and discovering alongside the audience. Our full Pop-Kultur 2026 festival report will follow after the festival, with impressions from the shows, artists and moments that stayed with us.
