Five releases worth spending time with this week.

Finding yourself in the spaces between certainty and change

Not every journey of self-discovery looks the same. This edition of On This Track: Midweek Listening #2 moves between alternative pop, indie folk, alt-rock and grunge-inspired indie, highlighting five releases that explore identity, healing and emotional growth. Whether through reclaiming autonomy, confronting loss, navigating inner conflict or questioning adulthood, these artists remind us that transformation rarely comes with easy answers.

THUNDER BAE – ”A WOMAN”

Entirely self-written and co-produced, "A WOMAN" marks THUNDER BAE's debut album and a deeply personal exploration of identity, desire and self-discovery. Moving between electronic music, alternative pop, indie rock and darker art-pop, the record embraces the contradictions of modern womanhood without reducing it to a single perspective. Instead, THUNDER BAE finds strength in vulnerability, presenting authenticity as something earned through experience rather than certainty.

Returning with the first single from their forthcoming album ”The Underworld, Sadurn expand their intimate blend of indie folk and alt-country while exploring grief, healing and renewal. Built around warm vocal harmonies, pedal steel and understated arrangements, "whole thing" reflects songwriter G DeGroot's deeply personal journey through heartbreak, illness and creative uncertainty. Rather than treating recovery as a destination, the song embraces transformation as an ongoing process, finding hope through vulnerability and quiet perseverance.

With "Sense", Alphabet turn their attention to the shifting nature of emotion and the quiet struggle of the inner monologue. The track balances melodic guitars, driving rhythms and dual vocals that move between urgency and restraint, reflecting the search for stability amid emotional uncertainty. Rather than offering easy resolution, "Sense" captures the reality that inner balance is rarely permanent, but continually renegotiated. That tension gives the song its emotional weight, allowing moments of calm and intensity to exist side by side without either one overwhelming the other.

On "Dooms banjo", London duo Cusk balance quiet intimacy with brooding alt-rock intensity, allowing contrasting moods to exist side by side. Built around intertwined vocals, textured strings and understated instrumentation, the song reflects the creative partnership between Esmé Creed-Miles and Evie Hilyer-Ziegler. Rather than resolving emotional tension, Cusk embrace vulnerability as an essential part of connection, creating a track that feels both delicate and quietly powerful.

Forget Them Wendy combine indie pop melodies with grunge influences on "Wise Guy", a playful yet thoughtful reflection on growing older without necessarily growing wiser. Beginning with understated intimacy before building towards an uplifting finale, the song explores self-doubt, identity and the pressure to appear more certain than we often feel. Rather than chasing easy answers, the duo find comfort in accepting that adulthood remains a process of continual self-discovery.

Not every release asks the same questions, but each of these artists is searching for something beyond easy certainty. Through stories of identity, healing, emotional tension and self-acceptance, they remind us that change is rarely dramatic: it is often gradual, uncomfortable and deeply personal. That's exactly where this week's Midweek Listening finds its connection.
